Snowflake cost calculator
Choose the cloud, region and edition, then the warehouse, its size and how long it runs. See what a month costs in credits and dollars, how much of it is the warehouse sitting idle before it suspends, and what storage, Snowpipe and data moved out add. Every price comes from Snowflake's own price list.
The Snowflake cost calculator
Multi-cluster warehouses and up to 90 days of Time Travel.
The default for a new warehouse: faster hardware, at more credits an hour.
Medium: 5.4 credits an hour for each cluster.
A multi-cluster warehouse adds clusters as queries queue. The average running.
The time queries are running, not counting the idle time before it suspends.
Each time it resumes after suspending. Each start bills at least 60 seconds.
Idle minutes before it stops, billed after every start. The default is 10.
Of the warehouse credits: compiling queries, metadata, logins. Billed only above 10 percent a day.
Compressed, with Time Travel and Fail-safe copies. Snowflake compresses what it stores.
CSV and JSON files count at their uncompressed size, Parquet as stored.
Unloaded or replicated out of the region. Loading in, and moves within the region, are free.
The cost
A Medium Gen2 standard warehouse in AWS US East (Northern Virginia), Enterprise, costs $16.20 an hour. Billed 5 hours a day for 22 days, with storage and the rest, the month comes to $1,897.
- A month
- $1,897
- 594 credits and storage
- Warehouse an hour
- $16.20
- $3.00 a credit
- Credits a month

- 5.4 an hour running
Of the 5 hours billed a day, 1 hour is idle: the warehouse waiting 10 minutes to suspend after each of 6 starts, $356 of the month. A shorter auto-suspend cuts it, though a warehouse that suspends also drops its cache.

Cheapest first. 2 regions of AWS do not offer this warehouse.
On-demand list prices in US dollars, before tax, from Snowflake's own price list. Not counted: serverless features (tasks, clustering, materialized views, search optimization), Cortex AI, interactive and adaptive warehouses, Snowpark Container Services, storage requests, and the lower prices of capacity contracts agreed with Snowflake.
How the calculator works it out
Snowflake bills compute in credits. A warehouse uses a set number of credits an hour for its size, from 1 for an X-Small to 512 for a 6X-Large, doubling with each size up, and a credit's price depends on the edition and the region: $3.00 on Enterprise in AWS US East. A multi-cluster warehouse uses the credits of each cluster running.
A warehouse is billed by the second while it runs, at least 60 seconds each time it starts, and it keeps running until it has been idle for its auto-suspend time, 10 minutes by default. So the calculator bills every start for its share of the queries plus the idle wait. In the example, 4 hours of queries over 6 starts are billed as 5 hours a day, and 1 hour of that is the warehouse waiting to suspend.
Cloud services, the work of compiling queries, metadata and logins, are free each day up to 10 percent of that day's warehouse credits; only the part above is billed. Storage is a flat price a TB a month of compressed data, $23.00 in AWS US East. Snowpipe bills a small number of credits for each GB it loads, and data moved out of the region is billed by the TB.
Questions
- How much does Snowflake cost?
- Snowflake charges credits for compute and dollars a TB for storage. A Medium Gen2 warehouse on AWS in US East, Enterprise edition, uses 5.4 credits an hour at $3.00 a credit: $16.20 an hour. Running queries 4 hours a day over 6 starts, 22 days a month, it costs $1,782 a month, and 5 TB of storage adds $115: $1,897 in all.
- How much does a Snowflake credit cost?
- On demand, a credit in AWS US East (Northern Virginia) costs $2.00 on Standard, $3.00 on Enterprise and $4.00 on Business Critical. The price depends on the region: on Enterprise it is $3.00 in 4 of the 23 AWS regions, US East among them, and up to $4.65 in South America East 1 (São Paulo) and EU (Zurich). Capacity contracts agreed with Snowflake pay less.
- How many credits does each Snowflake warehouse size use?
- A Gen1 standard warehouse uses 1 credit an hour as an X-Small and doubles with each size up: 2 for a Small, 4 for a Medium, and 512 for a 6X-Large. A Gen2 warehouse uses 1.35 credits an hour as an X-Small on AWS and Google Cloud and 1.25 on Azure, also doubling with each size. Each cluster of a multi-cluster warehouse uses the same again.
- Is Snowflake billed per second or per hour?
- Per second. A warehouse is billed for every second it runs, with a minimum of 60 seconds each time it starts or resumes, so 30 seconds bills as 60 and 61 seconds as 61. The credits an hour are a rate: a Medium Gen2 warehouse that runs for 10 minutes uses a sixth of its 5.4 credits.
- Does auto-suspend save money on Snowflake?
- Yes. A warehouse runs until it has been idle for its auto-suspend time, 10 minutes by default, and every idle minute is billed. In the example, 6 starts a day add 1 hour of idle time to 4 hours of queries, $356 of the month. A shorter auto-suspend cuts it, but a suspended warehouse drops its cache, so the first queries after it resumes can run slower.
- When do you pay for cloud services in Snowflake?
- Only when a day's cloud services use more than 10 percent of that day's warehouse credits. Cloud services compile queries, keep metadata and handle logins, at 4.4 credits an hour of their own use. Serverless features and Snowpark Container Services do not count toward the 10 percent.
- How much does Snowflake storage cost?
- On demand, a TB a month costs $23.00 in AWS US East, and more in some regions. Snowflake compresses the data it stores and bills the compressed size, including the copies kept for Time Travel and Fail-safe. Files staged for loading count too.
- Are Snowflake Gen2 warehouses worth the extra credits?
- When the queries finish fast enough. A Gen2 warehouse uses 1.35 times the credits an hour of a Gen1 one on AWS, so it costs less only if the work finishes more than 26 percent faster. Snowflake says most queries do finish faster on Gen2, from faster hardware and quicker deletes, updates, merges and table scans. Gen2 is the default for a new warehouse.
- How much does Snowpipe cost?
- Snowpipe bills 0.0037 credits for each GB it loads, with no warehouse running. CSV, JSON and other text files count at their uncompressed size, Parquet, Avro and ORC files at the size they are stored. Loading 1 TB a month costs $11.10 on Enterprise in AWS US East.
- Does Snowflake charge for data transfer?
- Only for data moved out of the region. Loading data in is free, and so is moving data within a region. From AWS US East, moving a TB to another AWS region costs $20.00 and to another cloud or the internet $90.00. Snowflake does not charge when a client fetches query results from another region.
- What is the difference between Snowflake Standard, Enterprise and Business Critical?
- Standard has the lowest price a credit, $2.00 in AWS US East, with up to 1 day of Time Travel. Enterprise, at $3.00, adds multi-cluster warehouses and up to 90 days of Time Travel. Business Critical, at $4.00, adds private connectivity such as AWS PrivateLink and support for HIPAA data.

Copy the code into any web page: a blog post, a course page or your team's wiki. The calculator runs in a frame and shows the same figures as this page, so when the prices change here they change on your page too. It is free and needs no account, and nothing a reader types is sent anywhere.
The code opens the calculator with the settings you have chosen above.
The short script at the end lets the frame grow and shrink with the calculator. Where a page cannot take scripts, choose a fixed height and the frame scrolls.
