Anthropic has 4 Claude certifications, Associate – Foundations, Developer – Foundations, Architect – Foundations and Architect – Professional, and only people who work at organisations in the Claude Partner Network can take them. Each is a proctored exam of 53 to 63 questions in 120 minutes, passed at a scaled 720 out of 1,000, costing $99 to $175 and valid for 12 months.
The Architect – Foundations exam came first, in March 2026. Anthropic added the other 3 in July, and by then more than 36,000 consultants at over 1,300 organisations had been certified. Most of the people searching for "Claude certification" are not at one of those organisations, so the first question is not which exam but whether you can sit one at all.
Who can take a Claude certification exam
Claude certification exams are open only to people at organisations in the Claude Partner Network; anyone else cannot register. Registration needs a company email on a domain listed in your organisation's partner record, so a personal address is refused. If your email is not recognised, your domain is probably missing from the record, and partner support takes 7 to 10 days to add it. You also need to be 18 or older with a government-issued ID.
If your employer is not a partner, Anthropic points you to Claude Academy. Its courses on Claude, Claude Code and the Claude API are public, and each ends with a quiz that earns a certificate of completion. That is a course certificate, not a proctored certification. A firm that delivers Claude for clients can apply to join the partner network at claude.com/partners; membership is free.

The 4 exams side by side
The 4 exams share a format and a pass mark; they differ in who they are for, how many questions they ask and what they ask about.
| Associate – Foundations | Developer – Foundations | Architect – Foundations | Architect – Professional | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Code | CCAO-F | CCDV-F | CCAR-F | CCAR-P |
| For | People who use Claude at work, no code | Engineers building on the Claude API | Builders of agent systems | Senior architects of enterprise systems |
| Questions | 60 | 53 | 60, in 4 scenarios out of 6 | 63 |
| Fee | $99 | $125 | $125 | $175 |
| Suggested experience | Regular use of Claude at work | 1 to 5 years of software work, 6 months with Claude | 6 months building with the API, Agent SDK, Claude Code and MCP | 3+ years in architecture, 6 months with Claude in production |
| Largest domain | Output evaluation and validation, 21% | Applications and integration, 33.1% | Agentic architecture and orchestration, 27% | Integration, 19% |

All 4: 120 minutes, multiple choice and multiple response with each question saying how many answers to pick, a pass at 720 on a scale of 100 to 1,000, and a credential valid for 12 months. None has a required course or a prerequisite exam; the experience in each guide is a recommendation.
Which one fits your work
Take the exam that matches what you do every week, not the highest one. The guides each name who they are not for, and those lines are the quickest way to choose.
- Associate – Foundations is for analysts, project managers, consultants and other knowledge workers who use Claude daily, with Projects, Artifacts and workflows. It asks most about checking Claude's output (21%), because a professional user's main job is catching a confident wrong answer. It is the only one of the 4 that does not count toward a partner firm's tier.
- Developer – Foundations is for engineers who ship applications and agents on the Claude API. A third of it is applications and integration: API mechanics, streaming, error handling and application design. It is not for people whose work is only writing prompts.
- Architect – Foundations is for people who design agent systems: agent loops, tools and MCP, Claude Code configuration, structured output and context. Every question sits inside one of 4 production scenarios. Our free sample exam has questions in that format.
- Architect – Professional is for mid- to senior-level architects who own enterprise designs, including governance, stakeholder talks and lifecycle. It spreads its questions widely, from integration (19%) to developer enablement (7%), and it is not meant for entry-level developers. You do not need the Foundations exam first.
A developer moving into design work can take Developer – Foundations now and Architect – Foundations later: they overlap on agents, tools and prompts, but the Architect exam puts nearly twice as much weight on agent architecture (27% against 14.7%).
How the exam works
You pay on Anthropic's Partner Academy, book through Pearson VUE, and sit the exam with a proctor online or at a test centre. After checkout, Anthropic emails a Pearson VUE link to choose the slot. The fee shown at checkout can be lower if your organisation's partner tier carries a discount.
The result is pass or fail with your scaled score, and the report also shows the percentage you got right in each domain. Only the total decides the pass; the domain figures tell you what to study before a retake.
If you fail, the wait before the next attempt grows: 14 days after the first fail, 30 after the second and 90 after the third. You can take the same exam at most 4 times in a rolling 12 months and pay the full fee each time, so 4 attempts at Architect – Professional cost $700 and span at least 134 days. Failing one exam does not stop you booking a different one. A no-show or late arrival loses the fee.
Is a Claude certification worth it
For people at partner firms, yes: the firm's standing depends on how many of its people hold one. Anthropic sets a partner's tier from its certified practitioners, its customers and its public references; the top tier, Global Premier, needs 1,000 certified practitioners. That is why large consultancies have committed to certify tens of thousands of staff. Associate – Foundations does not count toward the tier, so check whether your firm pays for it before you book.
For an individual the credential lasts 12 months, so it shows current skill rather than a lifetime title. What it proves is that a proctor watched you pass an exam written by Anthropic's subject experts, which a course certificate does not.
If you cannot sit one, the skills are the same: the AI engineering course covers the API, tools, agents and evals the Developer and Architect exams test, the Claude Code guide covers its configuration, and agents, MCP and structured output are the concepts the Architect exams lean on. Questions
- Who can take a Claude certification exam?
- Only people who work at organisations in the Claude Partner Network. You register with a company email on a domain listed in your organisation's partner record, and you must be 18 or older with a government-issued ID. If your employer is not a partner, you cannot register; Anthropic points you to the public Claude Academy courses instead.
- How much does a Claude certification cost?
- Claude Certified Associate – Foundations costs $99, Developer – Foundations and Architect – Foundations $125 each, and Architect – Professional $175. The fee at checkout can be lower with a discount for your organisation's partner tier, and every retake costs the full fee again.
- What is the passing score for Claude certifications?
- All 4 exams pass at a scaled score of 720 on a range of 100 to 1,000. The score report gives pass or fail, the scaled score and the percentage you answered correctly in each domain, but only the total scaled score decides the result.
- Which Claude certification should I take first?
- Take the one that matches your work. Associate – Foundations is for people who use Claude in their job and need no coding. Developer – Foundations is for engineers who build applications on the Claude API. Architect – Foundations is for people who design agent systems with the API, Agent SDK, Claude Code and MCP. Architect – Professional is for experienced architects; it has no prerequisite exam.
- How long is a Claude certification valid?
- 12 months from the date the credential is awarded, for all 4 exams. Passing earns a digital badge through Credly by Pearson.
- What happens if I fail a Claude certification exam?
- You can retake it after a waiting period that grows with each failure: 14 days after the first, 30 days after the second and 90 days after the third. You can take the same exam at most 4 times in a rolling 12 months, and each attempt costs the full fee. Failing one exam does not stop you registering for another.
- Can I get a Claude certificate if my company is not a partner?
- Not a certification. Claude Academy is public and teaches Claude, Claude Code and building with the Claude API; each course ends with a quiz, and passing it earns a certificate of completion you can share. A firm that delivers Claude for clients can apply to join the Claude Partner Network, and membership is free.
